Royal Papworth Charity provides an exceptional level of support to the hospital which often has a transformational and immediate impact. Royal Papworth Charity has awarded a number of grants in support of a wide variety of projects designed to enhance the features, facilities, environment, research and the services of Royal Papworth Hospital.

From disability guides and Nurse Training Apprenticeships to a new hybrid theatre Royal Papworth has been fundamental in transforming the lives of thousands and providing hope for future patients. Only together can we continue to fund the delivery of world-leading medicine at Royal Papworth Hospital. Your continued support is vital as only together can we change the way heart and lung disease is treated forever, and save more lives.

 

 

Developing tomorrow's medicine today

The Charity is dedicated to funding heart and lung medicine of the future and is committed to pump-priming research projects and core infrastructure to accelerate the discovery of further medical advances which will save more lives tomorrow.

  • The Charity contributed £5 million to the construction of the Heart and Lung Research Institute (HLRI) to ensure our patients always have access to the treatments of tomorrow
  • We will invest £3 million over the next five years to support the research taking place in the Clinical Research Facility within the HLRI  to support the development of cutting-edge diagnosis tools and treatments.
  • To aid and support research activities of all staff groups from across the Hospital, the Charity will distribute £2 million by 2027 in seed-funding to new and innovative projects through the Vision for Research Fund.

Educate tomorrow's workforce today

Royal Papworth Hospital’s dedicated and passionate workforce are instrumental to delivering the highest quality of care to our patients. 

To ensure the hospital recruits, retains and develops its workforce to deliver world-leading care, Royal Papworth Charity will continue to fund educational opportunities for staff to fulfil their potential. 

  • In 2021-22 the Charity provided £29,000 in funding to for additional training to staff at Royal Papworth Hospital. 
  • The Charity will provide £2 million over the next five years through the Royal Papworth School  within the HLRI to create a focus for all training and education activities.
  • We will provide £2 million in funding to implement a Fellowship Programme for all staff as they play an essential role in developing new ideas, technologies, and new procedures.

Invest in tomorrow's innovation

New innovative ideas and healthcare solutions are revolutionising heart and lung care at Royal Papworth Hospital. To nurture staffs’ expertise and creativity the Charity provides funding for innovative new projects and funding state-of-the-art medical equipment.

  • The Charity has provided £325,000 in funding to the Research Innovation Fund which has support five research projects, including cystic fibrosis, sleep apnoea and transplantation. By 2027 the Charity will have contributed £2 million in funding to support new ideas.
  • The Charity has supported the development of Laudit - a digital reporting portal to that enables the recognition and celebration of the everyday extraordinary measures that staff perform in their roles. Following the success of this tool at Royal Papworth Hospital, the Laudit team is now working with other NHS Trusts to implement Laudit in their organisation.
  • We have supported the development of EUROSCORE 3 – a world-leading cardiac risk model used by thousands of clinicians across the globe to access the risk of cardiothoracic surgery to allow surgeons and patients to make an informed decision.
  • We will invest £2 million in innovative and cutting-edge medical equipment to match our clinical expertise.

Address the need of the Hospital today

 The Charity funds high impact projects to tackle the needs of patients, staff, and visitors. These grants help to ensure the delivery of the very best patient experience by addressing additional welfare needs.

  • The pandemic highlighted greater importance for looking after our staff, since 2021 we funded a suite of wellbeing services for staff including the role of a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner and training of additional staff Wellbeing Facilitators from across the Hospital. 
  • The Charity will provide £1.5 million to support patient welfare by 2027, providing additional amenities, equipment and services that have a positive impact on patient care. 
  • The Charity will provide £1.5 million to support staff welfare by 2027, to ensure we look after our staff while they give our patients the very best care.

Prioritise today’s patients for tomorrow’s healthcare system

The Charity ensures that funding is provided for a suite of patient experience services, tailored to meet the individual needs of our patients.

  • By 2027, the Charity will provide £1 million to address current healthcare inequalities, £1.2 million to support Community Initiatives and £1 million to the development of Royal Papworth Hospital’s bereavement and liaison services.
  • The environment at Royal Papworth Hospital helps to nurture the wellbeing of patients, their relatives and staff. The Charity raised £150k, supported by partners such as Mick George and the Peter Sowerby Foundation, to create a peaceful community space at the Hospital when it moved to Biomedical Campus. 
  • The Charity will provide £800k towards environment and sustainability services at Royal Papworth Hospital by 2027 to continue to create a flourishing and restorative environment.
