Research helps us discover the medicine of tomorrow, today. It is estimated that half of people in the UK will be diagnosed with a heart disease in their lifetime, and without further medical advances, an estimated one-in-four people in the UK will die from heart or circulatory disease, while one-in-five will die from lung disease. Unfortunately, heart and lung disease may affect you, your family, or your friends.
In response to this global crisis, Royal Papworth Charity invested £5 million into the Victor Philip Dahdaleh Heart and Lung Research Institute on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. The Institute will host over 380 specialist researchers in state-of-the-art laboratories, covering genomics, population sciences, cellular research, translational medicine, and inpatient studies.
The Clinical Research Facility (CRF) inside the Heart and Lung Research Institute (HLRI) is run by dedicated Royal Papworth Hospital staff and researchers. It has bed-space for 10 inpatients at a time to take part in ground-breaking clinical studies and experimental medicine trials. The CRF is at the forefront of developing innovative treatments for a wide range of heart and lung conditions, and through our fundraising efforts we can help them continue their critical work and create a better world for everyone.
Our mission is to find the missing piece that can unlock the mysteries surrounding the causes of heart attacks, acute lung injury, cystic fibrosis, atrial fibrillation and pulmonary hypertension, to name but a few. But we can’t do it alone. We need your help! Whether you choose to walk, run, cycle, or seek sponsorship at your workplace, there are many ways you can fundraise and be the missing piece that can make all the difference.
So, are you ready to play your part and make a real difference in the fight against heart and lung disease? Join our community today and start fundraising for the Clinical Research Facility.
